They have to be. Impossible not to have a good time.
The venue: the alternative intimate and almost gritty Railway Club in Vancouver.
The crowd: between 50 and 75 people (it’s Sunday night) , a mix of the 2009 version of punk rockers, hipsters and people with a range of ages who know what a great bar band this group is.
The performers: keyboard, saxophone, trumpet, percussion, two guitarists and a bass guitar. This band tours all year long. Irreverent and explicitly-suggestive lyrics delivered with a nod and a wink … here’s a sample line from one of their early hits, “My Love Is Killing Me”:
“I’ll never forget you, I have the scars on my nuts“
You can tell they just love what they do. Every evening, so I’m told, is a high-energy audience participation wiggle-your-hips sing-and-clap along. It sure was tonight. It’s impossible to leave in anything other than a good mood with a smile on your face.
Here’s one of their early, and biggest, hits.

If they ever come to a town or city near you, do yourself a favour and go. You won’t regret it (unless you’re a straitlaced person or group .. tho’ there was tonight a table of off-duty Vancouver cops out for a night of socializing. They had a blast, you could tell).

Great fun! And great sound.
They immediately reminded me of the Kursaal Flyers from waaaaaay back. Different music but also ‘pub rock’ and less than serious. I remember laughing myself silly when I went to see them.

They played wmnf’s Heatwave in Tampa several years ago and were even then, although young, a terrific stage presence and full blown hoot. Glad to hear they’re still fun.
