I just watched the live CBC coverage of Barack Obama’s arrival in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The motorcade sped down Bronson Avenue past carlton University and to Parliament Hill, where on the steps of the House Obama shook Stephen Harper’s hand and waved to the crowd.
To me that crowd was remarkable … identifiably Canadian-looking to me. A sea of faces so mixed up in colours that it resembles an intricate multi-coloured jigsaw puzzle, a sea of faces from people all over the world originally.
There was something different about it, distinct from a similar crowd in the USA. I don’t quite know what that distinctness is, or how to describe it, but I am sure I saw it.
