While it seems absurd, a bit of reflection and extrapolation of current trends will, I think, allow most readers to nod bemusedly and say to themselves "Yes, I can see how this kind of thing is happening".

It is what the managers of businesses would like – keeps “talent” cheap.
I don’t think it will be the future.
The future belongs to people who can detect business opportunity, form teams rapidly which means some institutionalization of work patterns, disband quickly which means assuming that people keep their eye on business opportunity and some notion protecting teams and their members.

Clarify purpose, then develop focus, assemble necessary skills and competencies, execute, complete, then disband, move on … use the infrastructure we call the Web and social computing tools and web services.
Call it what you will .. socio-technical systems, self-directed work teams, high-performance work teams, wirearchy .. it’s increasingly the way work will be designed and carried out, in my opinion.
